KC's Evo2 Place - Help for the 3D simm game 4x4 Evolution 2.

Saving and using .TRK Files Help:

About .TRK files:
.TRK files are a simple text file that changes the characteristics and look of an existing truck in the game, like a "skin" in other games.
These are not complete vehicles, just a change in the "how they look and react" file of a base vehicle with it's own models and textures in a .pod format that is in your games pod.ini file.

You can spot a .trk file on the DL page by it's size. They are much smaller than a stand alone fully working .pod file because they don't contain all the textures, models, wheels, etc you need to make it work.
You need to understand that if you do not have the original truck the new .trk file "skin" is adding to your game won't work. Common errors are "Can't find such and such model or texture file" that the original used and in it's .pod file.

Most .trk files are based on in-game stock trucks, which you have, but some are not.
If a simple .trk file is based on an add-on with new models and such, the author should have have included a link to the Review page of the Original Truck you need installed first to make the characteristic changes work.

If you find ANY author uploading .trk files for already modified non-stock vehicles and NOT expressly saying what real truck you need in the Review Description to use it, report the Review Link url to the staff via the Contact form so the listing can be modified or deleted, because there is nothing worse than getting something useless even if it is free.

Saving .TRK Truck files
You save them in the C:\Program Files\Terminal Reality\4x4 Evo2\truck folder, with the file name ending in .TRK
If you do not have a \truck folder, simply create one.

If you don't get a "File Save" option and just a lot of text in a new browser window like this...

...then your browser is treating the file as a web page.
If you run Windows XP with IE 6.0 you will get this, other browsers and versions might too.

Two Choices Now:

You can either simply copy the text on the web page screen with Edit/Select All, open notepad, paste the text in and save it as a .trk file in the \truck directory, in this case, a new text file called DDWT.TRK, or go about it the long way if you are a noob...

Long Way:

Click the File Save As.. option.

You get a Save Web Page screen.

Now navigate to your evo2\truck directory.
Your file is there, but it ends in a .txt extension because of your browser.
Just RIGHT click the name and select the Rename option.

When you hit enter to rename the file extension, windows will warn you that something could go wrong.

Well, Duhhh!!!.... Yes we want to change it. We would have been much happier just getting a download box to save the .trk file where it needs to go in one step, but there you have it.

Just remember that .trk files are simply "skins" that can only modify an existing vehicle you have.
If you want stand alone ready to rock vehicles, DL the .pods.

How can you tell if it is a plain .trk, .trk in a .zip, or a .pod in a .zip?
By file size, and what the Download Popup says the file extension is in the CD path line.

Authors, take note...
If you upload plain .trk files based on anything but stock trucks, you better indicate and supply the link to the original that is needed to use it, or don't bother, useless undocumented .trk files will not be hosted.
