I thought I would share what I learned because it had me scratching my head for awhile.

issue: (Gigabyte MA78LM-S2)
Warm boot = 1 short beep
Cold boot = 2 short beeps

But there was no CMOS setting error and it did the same thing every time. (100% repeatable)

cause: (from support)
The BIOS setup option for cool and quiet and CPU fan fail warning are both enabled and the fans not spinning fast enough causing the extra beep.

If the temperature is low enough the cool and quiet feature may also slow (or stop) the fan enough for the fail warning to continue the beeping when both are enabled.

solution:
Disable the CPU fan fail warning.

Nice tip.
A BIOS beep halt may not really be a hardware failure.
A BIOS reset (jumper) would have fixed it, but you wouldn't have known what it was until you changed options again.

Oh it says 2 short beeps is a cmos checksum error.

But it was just one beep really and the other beep was do to the fan RPM.
Nothing was wrong with anything. (fans ok cause the CPU only heats up to about 100f degrees.)

From what I read I would imagine the room temperature at startup could make it stop doing that or beep like crazy.
