linkto: IRS newsroom. IRS Warns of Pervasive Telephone Scam

Last Friday I got the first call of this scam tried on me and fail because I know the IRS will only use the mail.

But even though they never asked a single question or wanted to do anything but intimidate. It still cost me most of the day and so much stress I'm still feeling all wore out today.

grrrrrr.

Worse yet is that they were just spewing out details for everything including my 2010 federal taxes all over the place that are not wrong.

-- edit

TIGTA or the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration put this out last month...

Based on the 90,000 complaints that TIGTA has received through its telephone hotline, to date, TIGTA has identified approximately 1,100 victims who have lost an estimated $5 million from these scams.

That scam only stoped 1/2 way thru because I was already 100% sure the IRS will never use the telephone.

But it still cost me most of friday and so much stress that I'm still wounded.

I mean were talking about a scam I could call back and record someone say in detail a criminal charge about me including details that should not be correct but end up matching over and over. In the end the Cypress police had to be contacted for me to get past that.

Caller ID number spoofing is breaking a enforceable law and can be traced (*57) / reported too.

I can post more info interested.
