Not bad at all, up in the top 10 here so far if not the top 5 as far as speed ratings go.
The potential is there for most anything you want to do for upgrade as well.
I can't decide if I like case or not though ;-}

Meh. I'm going to get a bunch of new stuff, including a case, once I get out of the hole I dug christmas shopping.
That case has alot less of that plastic siding in it since it overheated.
(the heat didnt hurt it, my fist did.)

I'd love to return to caseless but I am in a crowded apartment with alot of traffic and cats.

I used to have a bedroom all to myself that didn't get much of anything going on except me playing video games and sleeping so I never used to have a case.

Now my computer is stuck in a corner of my living room of my apartment with my girlfriend's in the bedroom and my roomate's computer on the other side of the living room.

I also have 3 dumb cats running around now.

Is there any other kind of cat?
No, don't answer that hehehe.

Is your boot drive SATA?
All my HD's are sata now, what a difference.
I keep all my data files on a second drive which I just upgraded to a 160GB SATA 300. man it rocks to burn DVD's.

If your boot drive is SATA you might want to start your upgrade with a 74GB 10K RPM WD SATA Raptor for your boot drive.
$170 and worth every cent of it.
You can see my stats and benchmarks on my MY PC page.

Yay for evil cord-chewing kitties! My cats always ate my computer cords, but we got a dog. She keeps the kitties in line.

Yeah my boot drive is SATA. But this rig only has 1 320GB HD partitioned into 70 and 250 gig C and D Partitions where I put all my junk on the D part.

I had to replace my girlfriend's hard drive that fried so I didn't actually get to put in that raptor drive you have been talking about.

I will sometime soon.

If you have a 7200 rpm sata boot drive you're fine.
Partioning works great for big drives too.
By keeping your boot C: partition at 70GB you are more likely to defrag and virus test it often because it won't take forever, and thats what is important.

Just defraging your C: every week will net you more overall performence on a daily basis than a 10,000 RPM drive you never defrag.
It's only when you do both that you start noticing the difference.

I never had any of my 3 cats eat through my cords, though my dog used to chew on our coffe table and my sister's guinepig was put down on the desk for 2 seconds and she chewed through my headset like lettuce! no worries though, i use my ps2 usb headset XD

There's always a work around ;)

Well, benchmark numbers are one thing, how the box actually works day to day is another.
Personally, I lean towards stable and just a bit faster for what I need it for at the time.
When it gets to slow for my needs, I upgrade.

The upside is the parts are not overclocked and stressed so they run for years when I resale them for my upgrade.

Yeah. I overclocked them once just to see how high it could go but I put them back to stock. People go on and on about how bad I need to ditch dual core and go intel quad and all that.

This machine still plays each and every game my friends play with good framerates and graphics.
I don't know (nor do I figure) if machine will run them at insanely high resolutions but I don't anyway. I don't need to run a game at like, 1600x1200 or 2048x1536 when 1280x 1024 works just fine.

I know right now if I had the money I'd be looking at tossing together an AMD quad setup but I have bigger fish to fry right now.

There is a real difference between benchmarks and actual performance as well. And I know AMD has served me much better than any intel box, so I don't plan to jump ship just for a bigger number on the benchmark box.

AMD and ATI have just been cheaper and more reliable for me, and the boxes I've made so far stand up quite well.

I've been an AMD guy for years too.
I have a dual core 6000+ in now.
I haven't played with the AMD quad core yet but I don't think it can beat an Intel 6600.

I was thinking on either of these 2 here:

http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=018068&cid=CPU.907

http://www.canadacomputers.com/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=018069&cid=CPU.907

I don't know how they stack up to the 6600, but I doubt they would be a bad setup.

But its just a wish list right now, since I'd have to buy a whole new system save hard drive and vid card.

Mobo + Ram + cpu and possibly PSU is a little rich for my blood right now.

Yeah. But I failed to see the "update from PC Wiz" thing on updating so I entered a new pc listing with it, copy/pasted the info but didn't confirm the entry. This machine is actually 2 years old now too.
