I have been running a 512MB GDDR3 7950GT video card for several months now and I'm happy with it, but I paid almost $300 for it.

I have a new $100 256MB GDDR2 7600GS video card here and thought I'd bench test it against my 7950, the results were interesting.

The 7950 gave me almost 500 more points, but the Video Global Performence is almost identical to the 7600.

I tried some games like Flatout and even the Crysis demo and could not notice any difference in performence so I'm scratching my head.
Either my 7950 was a poor choice, or the 7600 is a real bargin at $100.

The 7600GT has faster RAM than the GS, it has GDDR3 over the GDDR2 of the GS. I get good fps in all games on med/high settings at 1680x1050 with my 7600GT. With my X700 pro, it would struggle with med/low at that rez.

And my 7950GT has the faster GDDR3 and twice as much of it, yet it made little difference.

I'll run a 3Dmark06 on the 7600 and compare but even with my fast 3GHz AMD X64, 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2, and 10K RPM Raptor boot as a base it's pretty clear that my video card was overkill for the hardware, either that or both suck.

KC when you run 3d mark, run at default settings with both cards, compare scores, then re-run at high resolution and compare, usually THATS where the higher end cards shine.

Perhaps part of it is PCwiz only utilizes one of the 7950GT's two cores?

I ran 3D mark on the 7600, 4618.
The 7950 got around 5220 so still close.

No time to test it more, I have my card back in.
I have two new mobo's here too, one Amd and one Intel, so I think I'll make a mid-range gamer for cheap as a Christmas Special.

I'm running an AMD 3GHz dual core CPU and 2 gig DDR2 matched 800MHz system ram. Unless my MSI K9N SLI Platimum MB is the bottleneck I can't explain it.

I blame it on Nvidia! but just saying its probabl drivers, the 7960 wasn't a huge hit imo, i never heard much of em.
