This is a Graduation present I received for Christmas and I`m lovin it! I can`t wait to get a back up drive so I can repartion with out worrying. I would just ditch Vista altogether, but I mise keep it for gaming and Microsoft Office (Came with all Office tools).

Being that this is great PC compared to what I've been using (Pentium III machines) I now need to start downloading new Linux distros.

The only three I'm sure of are Arch, Debian, and Fedora. Any other suggestions?

Is that a laptop?
I'd just keep it for business because it's sure no gamer.
Still, cool graduation gift, and congrats on the graduation ;-}

I ment basic games like 4x4 Evo2 there KC. I've never been into "the lastest and greatest" in gaming. If you wanna do that, get a Xbox360 or PS3.

anyhow... did another test cause the one I posted still had 4 programs running in the background.

Though for some reason video and cache benchmarks went down slightly.

Also... seeing as how this is a Dual Core.. what is the normal Temp range?

didn't know if anyone saw that... I'm still curious.

Mine is running at 120 F (Core Temps) with a laptop cooler.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it.

I now have Virtual Box on the machine, and am having lot of fun. I currently have four installs:
>Arch Linux .. not really set up right yet, so not all that hot.
>CentOS .. Red Hat based, but not impressed.
>Debian .. cool. there's no other word for it.
>Open Solaris .. odd. strange. decent.

I also have a OpenSuSE installer waiting. I'm gonna do that now.

Maybe it's just me but it seems to me that Vista is using up more memory resources at first boot than it was when I first turned it on.

here's a couple of Google System Monitor shots

I am *almost* totally positive it only used about 700 MB of memory when I first turned it on.

Any guesses or am I just going mad?
