Ya it figures, I finally get around to picking up a low cost 2nd drive to complete my system and when do I do it. Right in the middle of some weather related hard drive shortage. grrrr...

Walk in to Fry's of all places and they are nearly out of hard drives. This WD drive was the only thing they had under $200.

My 1st drive is almost silent compared to this noise this 2nd one make too.

Congrats. I dont have all the hard drives in my system listed on my topic. I guess I should add them.

I have 2 80gig drives from my older systems....just used for system image backups. After I install my OS, update it, and install all m,y work stuff, I do a duplicate image backup of my OS....I keep one on each drive for redundancy.

I have a 500 gb drive that serves as my OS drive and programs.

I also have a 1tb internal drive for data only.

...and finally a 1tb external drive that is used for data backups.

I still need to work on a actual backup strategy one of these days. Maybe a little script to click so it actually gets done.

At least now something like a toasted MBR will just be a 'oh-oh' and not stop the PC from doing what I need to get done.

My Gigabyte mother board came with a backup utility called Express Recovery 2.

It's real basic. (no OS) To run it you press <F9> during post and get two choices backup or restore everything on the first hard drive. That's what made those EISA partitions shown on the first page of this thread.

I bet your thinking of the software KC has posted about called EASUS Partition Master.

You can almost make your partitions do do magic tricks with this utility. And all you need is the freeware version called home edition.

Thanks again KC for the great tool tip.

I'm surprised my biggest tube monitor is still running after my repair a decade ago.
My second largest tube went on the work bench so I only have a 17" tube with the big tube on my desk, however the wife's 50" Visio 1080P HD TV/Monitor is collecting dust in the spare room and it would fit on my desk ;-}

Or maybe on the wall so you dont have to be so close. I think my desk would need to be moved away from one that size too.

hehe That's my first non CRT, (still using 6) and the one on the right has a cracked board and jumper wires.

I'm not looking forward to going LCD.

Same for my mouse. But its been there forever and makes a really good writing pad for me anyway.

I'm left handed so things that are hard like that desktop or a #1 pencil make writing without poking holes in the paper a real challenge. LoL That pencil so bad I wont even think about trying to write with one.

'Pad' is way off to because it's real job was in the bed of a printing press and it's some tough stuff. So tough I can use a belt sander and 50 grit to clean the dam thing.

LoL IDK what kind of rubber that stuff is but my belt sander has never been able to put a scratch in it.

Thanks KC.

The 27" display not so good. (budget model) The pictures not the problem but it would never be solid enough to be around me without being clamped to that arm. (no vesa mount)

LoL. I bet you could smash the 27" to pieces with that 17" without even putting a dent in the little one.
