One of my teachers gave this to me on the first day of school. I thought it was funny, and decided to share it with you guys. :)Do they have a 4th of July in England? How many birthdays does an average man have? Why can't a man living in Winston-Salem, NC be buried west of the Mississippi River? If you had one match and entered a room in which there was a kerosene lamp, an oil burner, and a woodburning stove, which would you light first? Some months have 30 days, some 31, how many have 28 days? A man builds a regular 4 sided house, each side having a southern exposure. He's looking out a window when a bear wanders by - what color is the bear? How far can a dog run into the woods? What four words appear on every U.S. coin? I have two U.S. coins which total 55 cents. One is not a nickel, please bear this in mind. What are the two coins? A farmer had 17 sheep & all but 9 died. How many did he have left? Divide 30 by ½ and add ten. What is the answer? Two men were playing checkers. Each played 5 games, and each won the same number of games - No draw. How can this be? Take two apples from three apples and what do you have? An archaeologist claimed he found some coins dated 46 B.C. Do you think he really did? A woman gives a beggar 50 cents. The woman is the beggar's sister, but the beggar is not the woman's brother. How come? How many of each species did Moses take aboard the Ark? Is it legal for a man to marry his widow's sister? What word is mispelled in this test? A plane crashed on the Canada-United States border, killing 75. Which country is responsible for burying the survivors? An electric train was traveling north at 75 miles per hour. The wind was blowing south at 40 miles per hour. Which way would the smoke blow? Hemi Warehouse

Ahhh. This looks like fun...lemme at 'em.Don't read my answers if you want to take the test yourself first! Answers I'm not positive of have a question mark (?)

Yes, and a 5th, 6th and so on.
How many birthdays does an average man have?
one (You're only born once, despite what Scientologists may claim) Why can't a man living in Winston-Salem, NC be buried west of the Mississippi River?
Because he's still alive? If you had one match and entered a room in which there was a kerosene lamp, an oil burner, and a woodburning stove, which would you light first?
The match. Some months have 30 days, some 31, how many have 28 days?
All of them. A man builds a regular 4 sided house, each side having a southern exposure. He's looking out a window when a bear wanders by - what color is the bear?
Old joke. Answer: WHITE (polar bear) How far can a dog run into the woods?
Another old one. He can only run halfway in, after which he's running out again. What four words appear on every U.S. coin?
"In God we trust"? I have two U.S. coins which total 55 cents. One is not a nickel, please bear this in mind. What are the two coins?
Classics. One is not a nickle, BUT THE OTHER ONE IS! (A nickle and a half-dollar) A farmer had 17 sheep & all but 9 died. How many did he have left?
9 Divide 30 by ½ and add ten. What is the answer?
70? 30 divided by .5 = 60 60 + 10 = 70 Two men were playing checkers. Each played 5 games, and each won the same number of games - No draw. How can this be?
They weren't playing each other. Obvious... Take two apples from three apples and what do you have?
2 apples An archaeologist claimed he found some coins dated 46 B.C. Do you think he really did?
No. There were no B.C. dates! A woman gives a beggar 50 cents. The woman is the beggar's sister, but the beggar is not the woman's brother. How come?
sister? How many of each species did Moses take aboard the Ark?
You better ask Noah first! Is it legal for a man to marry his widow's sister?
I'd say a dead man cannot get married,(?) but I think some post-death marriages have been performed, so unsure... What word is mispelled in this test?
misspelled, you mean? A plane crashed on the Canada-United States border, killing 75. Which country is responsible for burying the survivors?
Very old joke. YOU DON'T BURY SURVIVORS! An electric train was traveling north at 75 miles per hour. The wind was blowing south at 40 miles per hour. Which way would the smoke blow?
Depends on whether it has a smoking car or not, because electric trains don't produce smoke.

Agreed with all of BD's answers. I remember my high school psych teacher giving us one of these types of questions in tests every once in a while, just to keep us on our toes. If you got it right, he counted it for two points. "I think that this situation requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part."

quote: Divide 30 by ½ and add ten. What is the answer?
If i remember correctly from last year, this can be thought of as two ways. The way that BD did it is one. The other one is the half could mean half of 30. So it would be 30/15=2 add ten and thats 12. I might be thinking of a different type of problem though, but this seams to be a "trick" question quiz, and my way seams more logical in this kind of quiz to me. Head of Fords Customs

Not quite. They definitely say to divide 30 by a fraction. They'd have to say "Divide 30 IN half" or for your statement to be true. Reading and comprehending the words is critical with these "trick-answer" tests, as they try to mis-direct you. . --> PC problems? Visit Vales ELITE COMPUTERS website for solutions <--

The only way a house can have 4 walls that all face south is to build the house on the north pole, and there are no polar bears THAT far north!

From what I remember, what I said is true. I will have to look it up to confirm it though. The way you are doing it seams too easy for a quiz like this to me. I did a quick look and there are two different approaches to it: quote:
30:2=15 15+10=25 so it's 25A different aproach would be to do the following: 30 : 1/2 (a half) = 60 + 10 = 70.
Source: WikiAnswers I noticed that on Yahoo answers several users also said its possible to get 70 or 25 Head of Fords CustomsEdited by - fordlord on Aug 28 2008 6:41:02 PM

Where would we be without wiki? Somewhere the laws of mathematics still are abided by. 30 divided by the fraction 1/2 is 60 no matter what the internet says. The trick part is most people think half of 30 is 15, plus 10, equals 25, and they don't get the bonus points on that exam. I wonder if you could build a house at the north pole, or would it be crushed as the ice moves annually. yeah, 30 divided by 1/2 is defiantly 60.

Well, then my last year math teacher must have said something wrong. Because I do remember that she said something about dividing something by half gives you half that number. Head of Fords Customs

Teachers are human too, and any human can make a mistake. They aren't infallable.MULTIPLYING something by 1/2, or .5, or 50% (all mean the same thing)results in half the original number. Maybe that's what he/she said. "I wonder if you could build a house at the north pole, or would it be crushed as the ice moves annually."
You could build one, but since the North Pole may have completely melted this summer, you may want flood insurance.

Don't mean to change topic from funny quiz, but I have to say something on this article. quote: "We're actually projecting this year that the North Pole may be free of ice for the first time [in history]," David Barber, of the University of Manitoba, told National Geographic News aboard the C.C.G.S. Amundsen, a Canadian research icebreaker.
I hope hes only talking about human history, otherwise, I'm going to stop reading National Geographic. "I think that this situation requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part."

They mean just that. There isn't any RECORDED history of no ice at the North Pole. Hence, the text in brackets added to clear that up. --> PC problems? Visit Vales ELITE COMPUTERS website for solutions <--

They need to specify, cause I consider all the past including the stuff that evolved out of primordial ooze into multi-cellular organisms to technically be history, brackets don't really say "recorded human" to me. :end rant: "I think that this situation requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part."

I love these logic quiz's. Anyone remember Omni Magizene?I got them all but the 55 cents with 2 coins first try. As I started to scroll down I seens BD had answered already so I went back up and got the coin one figured out for a perfect score. My personal home page KCvale.com.

quote: How many of each species did Moses take aboard the Ark?
I always get Moses and Noah mixed up in the first place so I got that one wrong. I can get 12, 25, and 70 for the "Divide 30 by 1/2 and add ten" one. Getting 25 would be one way but I think 70 is the real answer. Don't forget, when you divide by a fraction, you have to use its reciprocal. Thus we have: 30/1 divided by 2/1 (and not 1/2) = 60. Add 10 and get 70. I think its a trick question in a way that you have to remember that little rule. Edited by - KickFlip360 on Aug 29 2008 7:08:07 PM
