CS2 is basically Photoshop-9, since they started the new "CS" numbering system starting after Photoshop-7.

If it works then that could solve that issue once and for all. Fingers crossed.

I gave CS2 a try, and it looks like it saves uncompressed .TIFs with intact alphas just fine. In fact, it looks quite similar to PS 5.5 that I'm so familiar with. I'm going to toy with it a bit.

Great find bro. Have fun re-painting trucks now.

No can do here. Can't translate from PSP because I don't know how to use it... . Always a PhotoShop user here.

But maybe I can at least get you started. Just a few basics for now.

Bear with me, as some tools I use are missing or moved in this version versus V5.5:

======================================================================

TOOLS (Well, some of them...see HELP menu items for more and proper usage of):

.

Loading, editing and saving a stock .TIF texture file from EVO2:

First step after opening the file in Photoshop is to change the image from INDEXED (256 colors) to RGB mode (16,000 colors) to make all tools and color options accessible (MENU: IMAGE/MODE/RGB COLOR). Once you do so, the ALPHA channel will appear in the CHANNELS window at lower right:

.

Click on it in the channels window to select and view/edit the ALPHA layer. Click on RGB to see the main channel again:

.

Do your paint work now using the various tools. See HELP menu for instructions. And have fun!

.

Finished? Ready to save it?

Before saving your .TIF, change the image back to EVO-compatible indexed color mode again. When the INDEXED COLOR window appears, select OK with the choices seen here:
(.BMP and .JPG images should be saved in RGB mode for maximum color detail - .GIFs and .TIFs must be in INDEX mode to save)

.

If there is more than one layer to your pic (not counting Alpha layers), merge them using FLATTEN IMAGE now before saving (MENU: LAYER/FLATTEN IMAGE)
(some formats like .PSD can be saved with multiple layers, but .BMPs, .GIFs, .JPGs and .TIFs cannot).

.

KC, do you think you can place a copy of "Photoshop CS2 Free" on the Vales.com/Programs page alongside PSP-4?

Looks like it's a 340-meg D/L, so maybe not, but I had to ask anyway . I just don't know how long that non-Adobe site will be making it available, and it's too large to email to people.

That's a great idea but considering the download size maybe make it available only to registered members

Very glad to see people making use of the free release of CS2.
i have used it since they did the free release a year ago.
I have confirmed that it works on Windows XP, Windows 7 64-bit, and Windows 8.1 64-bit.

It's kind of funny, but I was scanning back through old Photoshop and PSP threads here in the forum, and ran across one post in 2006 where I am posting links to versions of PS and PSP, and just happen to mention the release of THE NEW PHOTOSHOP CS2 (heh-heh): http://vales.com/evo2/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16711

To quote a REALLY old TV commercial slogan for a lady's cigarette product, "You've come a long way, baby!".

I'm a complete bozo.

What does one do when one encounters "Please enter serial number"?

My memory is so good, I can't even remember the last time I forgot anything!
